FAQ
-
How can I get the Aixplorer?Currently the Aixplorer covers the city hall and the Centre Charlemagne. You can rent it inside each location.
-
How much does it cost to use the Aixplorer? At the time of writing (September 2015), the Aixplorer is available for 2€ (1.50€ for students). For up-to-date pricing, just contact the city hall (+49-241-432-7310) or the Centre Charlemagne.
-
Can I make a reservation for an Aixplorer? You don’t need to reserve an Aixplorer in advance. There are usually enough devices available. Groups over ten people may wish to call ahead though.
-
Why should I use this guide? It helps you explore each location at your own pace. More convenient than using a paper guide, and more personalized than a guided tour, the Aixplorer provides a third alternative to explore Aachen following your own preferences.
-
Why is the Aixplorer special?Even though a lot of different audio guides are already available, the Aixplorer is the first guide that works indoors as well as outdoors, and it was among the first museum guides worldwide to provide continuous indoor location tracking using the modern Bluetooth Beacons standard. The Centre guide in particular is also more entertaining than most audioguides out there. :)
-
Who can use the Aixplorer? Do I need a lot of technical expertise?Aixplorer is easy to use, simpler than a smartphone. The content however is designed for adults. Should you have any further questions about using the device, contact one of the Infotrainers who are handing out the devices at each location.
-
Can I use my own smartphone to take this tour? Not yet. Among other things, the medieval coronation feast experience CORONA in the upstairs coronation hall inside city hall requires special hardware. However, a downloadable app version for all the remaining tour content is planned.
-
Is this system also available in other cities? The Aixplorer was designed for the Route Charlemagne and currently only exists in Aachen. However, it is possible to transfer this concept to other cities as well. If you are interested in this, please contact
